THE MUSINGS
📷: new Uniball ONEs are in 👀
Hello, dear friends —
I just did something super strange and super fun (????), which was create a PowerPoint presentation about myself. What are my strengths? My weaknesses? My astrological makeup? My enneagram? How can you tell if I’m cranky? How do you like to receive feedback?
All of this was in service to some online systems we’re trying to set up — ways to communicate and build a hub for MyMy across our team. It was for work (probably the reason I convinced myself to do it), but it helped in ways I didn’t expect it to.
I’m not a terribly introspective person these days. A lot of being a small business owner (honestly just being a human) is about triage and urgency. What fires need immediately put out? What deadlines are coming up? What needs tending or tossing? None of those things actually correspond with who I am. Things happen, then I react.
With actually writing out the ways I prefer to function, I realized that I might have more agency than I thought I did. Tasks may feel urgent, but I prefer to work intentionally towards goals. We may be juggling multiple projects, but I need a few minutes between task switching. What a relief to admit that! And write it down!
I wanted to cordially invite everyone to write your own user manual. What makes you tick? How do you prefer to function socially? Where do you find comfort? What are your pet peeves?
Maybe you know all of this about yourself! I sure didn’t, though. Also, I’m an ENFP for all yall wondering 💕 Make some art and take good care!

THE INSPIRATION
READING: This week, I’m reading Tress of the Emerald Sea. There are many moons, and dangerous spores, and PIRATES!
WATCHING: Love is Blind UK while using one of those weighted hula hoops, like the peak performance athlete that I am 🤣
LISTENING: Apparently one of the performers in the Squirrel Nut Zippers is also a leading expert on the paranormal phenomenon of meat falling from the sky? Anyway, Shane listened to a podcast about raining meat, and now we’re deep in a SNZ rabbit hole. I played them at Fiber Party today, though I didn’t tell anyone about the meat rain. Sorry, yall.
BEING: I’ve been home for the majority of the past two weeks, first to do paperwork and then because the chronic illness is acting chronically. As someone who tends to default to peopling, it’s been a dream to start feeling comfortable being alone. To start feeling comfortable being bored. To crave quiet, not just to crash, but to cultivate. Sometimes, that’s where the art comes from.
